Seriously? I’m kind of side-eyeing a lot of people right now ‘cause I keep seeing people saying “sorry” before they call out someones racism. Also, I keep seeing folks go on to say, “I’m not calling you a racist, but…” — no. Stop right there. That is the same as people saying “I’m not racist, but…”. If you are calling out someones racism, guess what? 99.9% sure that person is a racist; sometimes often just an individual that needs to undo their learned behavior, if they’re willing to, but that doesn’t erase anything. White people constantly behave as though being called a racist is far more hurtful than their racist actions — do not encourage this by coddling their feelings.
We need to stop ignoring the guilt behind calling out white people on their ‘ish. We should all know by now racists aren’t just the guys in Klan uniforms with swastika’s on their chest and shaved heads under their hoods. We should all know my now it isn’t just being called racial epithets that unveil a racist. We should know by now that racism is often subtle, covert, and done in such a way that others won’t suspect or believe your accusations. Do not apologize for speaking up. Do not try to assuage the racist when it is you who are attacked. If you are an apologist, you are not on my side or any other PoC’s side, and thus just as much in need of a learning lesson as they.

sorry I couldn’t make it out to nyc !
Bless this nigga’s face… gotdamn
Remember when Andre 3000 said that ?
Remember on “Liberation” (Outkast) when Big Rube said : “but get beheaded if you falsely dreaded.”
I liberated MY MIND first and THEN I began a loc journey. In fact, I’ve been on a knowledge of self journey for the past four years…my loc journey is a result of that. Not the other way around.
See I’ve been realizing in my journey that a lot of people with locs, afros, natural hair — its just about style, its just about appearance. I’m noticing a lot of natural hair with conditioned minds and that itself is a sad contradiction. Ironic and sad. & it makes the above quotes even more relevant.
Its not coincidence that the afro was identified with being a revolutionary/black power symbol. The elders liberated their MINDS first, and the afros came after…NOT the other way around.
Now question is every nigga with dreads for the cause? No.
Much more than aesthetics….
